You really should have given this more of a chance! by Mischief Maker 10/29/2015, 8:18pm PDT
I've been playing this continuously on higher and higher difficulties and it really DOES get better the harder the level. What's more, if you hate the 72 hour campaign, you can set it to 120 hours, or even unlimited.

Spending money on upgrades was what made me not have anything during a fabricator mission.

Between all the corporate safes and all the guards in the mission itself, you should be plenty flush to buy a nice shiny object from the fabricator. Or not, you can just grab all the money you can and skip the fabricator and all that will happen is Central will yell at you.

This is a game of risk and rewards, you can take a fabricator mission, which produces a nanofab with a higher selection, or you can take a cybernetics mission that gives you two free upgrades, but risks that they aren't ones useful for your current builds.

It's not a question of not getting money, it's a question of all the upgrades being boring. +1 item slot per level. +1 or +10% whatever per level. Boring.

Not boring: unlocking the ability to use higher level items based on your skill levels. Higher hacking allows things like EMPs that blow open safes without using incognita, higher speed allows better cloaking devices, etc.

The guard KO mechanics suck ass. Guards wake up in 2 turns on alert unless you sit on them? Or drag their body with you through the entire level? Why do this in a system where they already have mechanics in place to receive unlimited reinforcements? Stupid.

If you don't want guards getting back up, that's what lethal weapons are for. Or that's what paralyzer syringes are for. Or that's what melee cybernetics are for. Or that's what Anarchy level 2's pickpocket ability is for. Once again, it's a game of risk versus reward. You shouldn't knock out guards unless you have a plan for being out of sight (invisible, even) once they come to. In fact, it's wise to locate the elevator and strip all the safes in a level before knocking out any guards or activating the objective because that usually triggers something that makes the level more dangerous. If you've got a stationary guard blocking a door, Decker starts out with a free cloaking device.

Also, if the game seems piss-easy and repetitive, it's because your first game takes place with the difficulty options set to piss-easy.

Like Blue Wish Resurrection, it's not a difficulty problem. It's a boring problem.

Like Zone of the Enders 2, it's not a boring problem, it's a premature keyboard-flipping problem.

Later difficulties, when guard patrol paths go through multiple rooms and higher numbers of daemons require the use of agent-held hacking devices and other assorted trickery to supplement Incognita, it becomes a completely different game. Beginner is a glorified tutorial for new players to get a feel for the mechanics and yes, the massive gaps in security make for a less exciting game at that difficulty.

You sold this as a Roguelike that broke away from the RNG. You're lucky Steam gives refunds now, or else you'd owe me $12.

I still say it's one of the best puzzle games to come out in a long time. You never get "fucked" by the RNG, the risks are always clearly explained, and if you lose it's your fault. What's more, you can set the game to give you rewinds if you're worried about getting fucked by the RNG's creating a tricky level layout.
