| Unfortunately someone took it down, but Joe Rogan has a great bit in his Rocky Mountain High special where he was explaining to the audience that he's a comedian telling jokes and will lie to the audience to get a laugh, says a bunch of fucked up shit, then chides the audience for taking him seriously.
I wouldn't call Bill Burr formulaic, but one thing he definitely does is looks at a big issue of the day, intentionally take the opposite side, then attempt to justify that side to comedic effect: Bill Burr is insanely prolific in part because of this technique, but part of the price he pays is awkward silences when his intentionally contrarian view hits a nerve with (some) audience members. In that original clip it looks to me like the entire audience is laughing save for one woman who isn't having it, and all his attention is drawn to her. And here is where I would link to Patrice O'Neal's Stone Faced Indian bit from the deleted scenes of Elephant in the Room, but someone took that down from youtube, too! |
