I noticed this in the board gaming world as newer reviewers ramble on about their toddlers/latest movie watched/irrelevant anecdote for four paragraphs before even mentioning the game. Or they're cracking lame jokes in skits and it's impossible to figure out if the game is any good, under what circumstances, and if there's better alternatives because that UNIMPORTANT shit is buried at minute 19 in their 23 minute video. But hey, they got to use that funny duck costume and talk in a Scottish accent, lol!
They generally aren't [good] writers, or actors, so that stuff is always grating.
My take is that the problem isn't so much the lack of score or rating: it's more about the person being wrapped in their own ego, and their inability to evaluate*, be concise, or to edit. Also many come off across as they no longer enjoy what may have once been a fun hobby for them.
*I mean basic statement/evidence analysis. The pop-review sphere tends to be muddle of useless exposition, and then maybe shallow/weak argumentation, leading nowhere about any idea(s) being imparted other than the reviewer being a goddamned nutcase |
