I said to myself "I wish that I could play F Zero on this thing"by Fullofkittens 06/07/2017, 8:15pm PDT
I am loathe to link to some Youtuber rando's review, but he's got it exactly right.
It's really fun. If 13-year-old FoK could have imagined what Nintendo was putting out as 2017's answer to 1991's F-Zero...I wouldn't have imagined anything better than this. Wonderfully beautiful, it feels like you're playing Mario Kart in a Simon Stålenhag universe, and it's...difficult in a good way. I needed to rebind my controls multiple times to make the beginner level work right for me and I'm still not getting 1st all the time against the computer.
There were some review headlines that said to stay away from this, it's not as good as Mario Kart. My response is that it's not for the Mario Kart crowd, it's for the people like myself that loved RC Pro Am and F Zero, who wanted to learn how to master interesting courses perfectly.
The only downsides I could mention are one he mentioned (random crash obstacles are impossible to predict without memorization) and one more: crashes look stupid as fuck. If they're going to make you crash all the time at least make it look cool.
Overall: positive
