I'm not ready to call it terrible but it's not grabbing me either.

The Warcraft 3 comparison is apt. The main ding is that there's just too much going on for there to be all these hotkeys to worry about and you don't get the retreat command anymore.

+some graphic details and animations are better (buildings, explosions)
-some are a lot worse. Units have very "floaty" physics: space marines seems like they're hooked up to hot air balloons (the servitor unit has a prancing walk animation!)

+They actually give you a normalized health and dps rating for all the units! They still don't tell you how different damage types affect different armor types, but still that's a fucking milestone for Relic RTS games.

+Apparently there was massive unlock cancer at release where you had to grind points to unlock all the elite units. The very first screen you see when starting the game is a notice that they did away with that, basically saying, "We finally realized that forcing a 'pace' on players exploring all the units is fucking silly. Sorry about that!"

-You still have to unlock abilities on elite units :(

-Cover is gone...mostly. There are rare "cover points" that you capture just like a resource point. It activates a shield that protects the occupying unit from everything but "cover counter" units which seem like melee? It's so fucking stupid.

-It can't decide if it wants to be Warcraft 3 or DotA. Destroy the 3 base turrets and shield generators to expose to core to blow up. Here is a mass teleport back to back button. We did away with cover, but aren't these ~~brush~~ ambush smoke vents so much better? fuck you
