The sick children are off the menu. The next fight is about dreamer kids. The GOP will have to literally say "we want to deport these 800k people that 80% of voters don't want deported" to renege on the deal and if they do they just get another shutdown. February's shutdown will be very easy to blame on McConnell being a liar. This doesn't sound that bad for the Democrats at a macro level. I will grant you that there are individuals that are getting fucked over by ICE every day and it would be great to minimize the days, but every one of those is a shocking human interest story that works in favor of the dreamers. Meanwhile come this fall the Democrats can also point to the January shutdown and say "these guys are so fucking incompetent that they shut down the government when they controlled all three branches of it and we had to be the grownups and unfuck it for them." WHICH IS 100% TRUE by the way. I don't personally feel like this is the right time to start forming our own Tea Party of the Left. |
