| Dr. Jordan B. Peterson is a professor at the University of Toronto. He's become much more famous lately with his devastating critiques of people who propose things where they don't know what they are talking about.
There is one thing about him I do not like and takes away from his otherwise brilliant analyses of other people's points. Peterson is a deeply religious man who allows his belief in God to cloud his judgement. He does not understand what atheism is and makes a number of mistakes in trying to analyze the opinions of atheists. I was a Christian for decades until I was confronted by a number of points that basically destroyed Christianity in my eyes because I could no longer believe in its tenets and fundamental principles. I looked at the points that were made, considered my beliefs, and realized they were not supported by the real world. I then decided since my religion did not agree with reality, I could no longer be a Christian. I then knew I was now an agnostic because I did not believe. I remained an agnostic for 20 years until a couple years ago, when it was pointed out in a video that unless you actually do believe in the existence of at least one god, you are not merely an agnostic, you're also an atheist. Dr. Peterson has either not reached the conclusion where one discovers religion is wrong and one must abandon it, or one decides to keep religion as a crutch notwithstanding its errors or incompatibility with reality. I hope his problem is the former. |
