What was the worst car ever made? by Commander Tansin A. Darcos 06/02/2018, 10:23pm PDT
There are questions about what was the worst car ever made. Here are a few possibilities, then my selection.

* The Tucker. Tucker didn't have adequate financing and resources to create a car company. As a result he built less than 60 cars before his company closed down. He might also have had problems with the big three automakers perhaps pulling stunts to make it harder to operate but I don't know for sure.
* The Pinto. Improperly designed gas tank alignment causing passenger incineration from rear-end collisions, and accountants penny pinching over costs to repair the problem.
* The Edsel. Might have been a decent car except the toilet bowl-shaped front grill rendered it the ugliest car made and thus unsalable.

My pick for the worst car ever made.
* The Trabant. Proposed as the finest in East German manufacturing, intended to show how well Communism could do better than capitalism. If "do better" means "make worse crap". Could probably be considered a very "green" car as much of the body panels were made from recycled cotton waste and used phenol resin to create a type of plastic Easy to spot when operating because they smoked badly, the lack of a fuel pump, oil pump, gas gauge, and using a motor that probably had less horsepower than an American lawnmower required the fuel tank to be easy to reach, mounted high and carrying a big risk of fire in front-end accidents. Because of the lack of a fuel pump, you had to add two-stage oil to the fuel, the same way people have to for model airplanes. Tourists who visited East Germany were sometimes offered a Trabant for the value of a pair of brand new blue jeans. The cars were of so little value that the tourist buying one in exchange for a new pair of pants had been cheated.

According to Wikipedia, here are some jokes about the Trabant:

*  What's the best feature of a Trabant? — There's a heater at the back to keep your hands warm when you're pushing it.
*  What does "601" stand for?" (in German, "601" is read as "six hundred and one")
**        (original version) 600 people ordered cars, and only one has had it delivered.
**        (variant from 1990) 600 cars on the dealership lot, and only one customer.
**        (other variant) Space for 6 people, comfort for zero, and one to push it.
*  How do you catch a Trabi? — Just stick chewing gum on the highway. (Allusion to the Trabant's underpowered motor.)
*  What is the longest car on the market? — The Trabant, at 12 meters length. 2 meters of car, plus ten meters of smoke.
