Sony has announced it’s plans to launch the PlayStation Classic, a new ‘mini’ retro console based on the original PS1.
Costing $99.99 USD, the unit is expected to launch December 3rd 2018 with 20 games built in. The full list of titles has yet to be revealed, but Sony has name-dropped some of the biggest titles in the line-up, which includes Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, Wild Arms, and many more.
Sony states that the PS Classic is 45% smaller than the original PlayStation, and the package includes a pair of wired, USB controllers, plus an HDMI cable for connectivity to your TV.
I've got some PS games downstairs that I'll keep forever. Sentinel Returns, Spider-Man. Some others I can't remember. It looks like this will have the same classic problem as the other attempts for other consoles, it really is about the games and if you can't put new ones on, it's crippled. (Keeping in mind with the numbers that Nintendo gets out of these things, it may not really matter.)
