THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE (2016) by Fullofkittens 02/02/2019, 6:25am PST
This is a newer horror film by André Øvredal, the guy behind TROLLHUNTER (2010) which is a personal favorite of mine. I didn't even realize that going in, THE AUTOPSY OF JANE DOE was recommended to me by a dude in a thread talking about a thing. (In retrospect I think the thread might have been about BIRD BOX which should have served as a warning.)

Anyways, the fact that it has the director from TROLLHUNTER and Brian Cox as the lead and a cool looking thumbnail, those things might induce you to try watching this, which you should not. It's awful. It's the worst of both worlds: a completely predictable horror movie wherein there aren't really any rules or constraints on what the big bad can do.

The premise is kind of cliched in terms of horror fiction but maybe less so in horror film: cops find a house full of dead bodies that are all goried up and one perfectly preserved dead hot naked lady. Brian Cox and his son are coroners and they start to work on the dead hot naked lady corpse...only maybe she is not what she seems...??? I bet if each of us were to sit down with a notebook and write the rest of what we think a cliched horror movie would do with this premise...we would ALL come up with what happens next (only most of us would not include one extremely dumb and unearned surprise that happens at around an hour and ten minutes in, unless you wanted your fake script to be a fucking joke, in which case you would). It's...surprisingly unsurprising.

I only found out when I was hate-reading the Wikipedia article afterward that this was a André Øvredal joint, that was a sad moment. Talk about a sophomore slump. This is a negative review. :(
