Nah, this was right for a while but they've bounced back over time. Their failkids bracket episode was great for having a laugh at the new crop of idiot political scions, though it's paywalled (if you're not one of their patreon supporters or not clever enough to share the costs in case of being in the crippling poverty section of their demo, that's on you). They're also reconfiguring for production under a neoliberal administration - they have always maintained they'd have a harder time getting laughs under Hillary, though the Biden family is an absolute gift.
What's your standard for current long-form political comedy shows? With Michael Brooks gone, there's not that many comparisons to make. BBL is a little potheaded but mostly okay, GDA is sort of painful to listen to these days, and I don't know what else is part of the US the scene except for five minute twitter videos.
As to covering for Trump, if you're going to go around throwing down the definition of neoliberalism let's not forget that the Chapo crew has always maintained that imperialist powers like the US are all plenty fascist and that this is expressed by rightward shifts on both sides of the aisle, coupling it with a 40 year neoliberal DNC drift. They're merely saying that there's not gonna be a coup or an uprising because nobody wants to miss a meal over any of this unless it benefits them to and they've pointed to specific behaviors from Trump that make this likely in their view like him structuring his effort to secure the presidency and call the election into question in such a fashion as to pay back debts incurred in running for reelection, to which you've said nothing. I'd be interested in your thoughts on that. |
