I lasted about a week, and then I locked it to an always on system-wide menu.
My main annoyance was that it is constantly flashing while you are working. When you're typing in terminal it is adding auto-complete suggestions. Or if you switch apps the menu bar changes in the corner of your eye.
The designers I know leave it on. I don't think I've ever actually seen anyone using the controls though. If you are using a mouse/trackpad it probably takes longer to move your hand to the touch bar than it would be to find the appropriate menu item. And if you are using the keyboard you can't touch-type on it. And in both cases you have to context switch to look down at the touchbar, again distracting you from what you're actually working on.
It's kind of nice to have always-on dedicated volume/mute/play.pause buttons now that I turned that crap off though.
Might be worth it just to have the touch ID.
The touch ID to unlock thing is nice.
4 years later I still keep it locked to system-wide menu |
