| I usually stick to phones beyond obsolescence, to the point where they are literally unusable because the network they connect to is no longer supported. I used an original Razr up until 2014. A 1st gen Moto G up until 2020. I used a shitty Sansa Clip for music and podcasts.
I never had a single issue with any USB connector manufactured prior to 2017. My (2018) PS4 controller's (micro) USB port simply stopped working. Cannot connect to a PC, cannot charge. It was working fine 6 months ago when I put it and the system in a box in a dry closet. Take out 6 months later, busted. My one year old Samsung Galaxy S9 has given me half a dozen "moisture detected in charging port" notices where it disables the USB-C port and charging. Half the time it's nowhere near any moisture. Nothing will make this go away. Not rubbing bits of dry tissue around. Not blowing into it. Not a hair dryer. Not even an industrial rug dryer blowing on it for 15 minutes. Each time, I have to wait 6-12 hours and pray it eventually goes away. Maybe the moisture is internal and it has to be opened for a dryer to work? S9s are sealed like iPads where you have to use heat guns and picks to pry it open (while avoiding damage to several sensitive wires). Why is it sealed instead of letting you open it for simple access to the battery? To make it water proof. lol So what the shitfuck is up with this crap? Why do current USB ports shit the bed so easily? How was I able to get through 10 years of unsealed smartphones without a single moisture error, yet now it's a bimonthly affair with a sealed one? Why have I not encountered a single USB port breaking until the past 3 years? |
