There's a lot of depth to this game, which is the bane of a professional game reviewer with a deadline:

Picture the scene: you are at the beach. It is a real-time strategy beach, where metaphors happen. A lawless-looking child hands you a bucket. When you look into the bucket, you find sand, paint, bread, pottery, chocolate, nails, and several crabs all speaking different languages. Isn't this fascinating? What the hell is going on? This is Hero's Hour, an untidy RTS sand bucket filled with so many ideas it's hard to see how this turbulent mix will have any structural integrity at all when you finally up-end the bucket to build a tower. And yet… it sorta does? I don't know. I'm lost. How do I get off this beach?
Tell me this reviewer isn't just annoyed he can't press X to not die and get this review banged out in a couple hours before he has to sit down to dinner and explain to his parents what is does is an actual job, thank you.
I am watching Saw IV right now for reasons and it isn't great but it will be over in 20 minutes and mercifully the entire thing is 100 minutes. If I am playing games for a living I can put in a 40 hour week playing a game but how soon before these games come out do reviewers get them? The developers are still fixing bugs, so they don't show up on Steam more than a week before launch for the reviewers, do they? We are trapped in an old media mechanism.
Jizaboz mentioned that he had a wonderful six hour session of Elden Ring on irc the other day and that seems amazing to me - six hours of fun! I remember having lots of time to play games in the post-college, before-girlfriend times of my life, but I still had to work. I don't know who these 80+ hour games are made for any longer. Is it really just people in that stretch of their lives before they have a career? I am at 45+ hours with Cyberpunk 2077 and nowhere near completing it, how can I call it anything other than a classic? How can I ever form an opinion of the game itself, though, without just taking an entire week off to meditate on it? And how stupid would it be to conclude from hours 46-100 or 200 that it sucked? The entirety of all Star Wars movies and live action television doesn't have 46 entertaining hours and that was sold for billions and changed the lives of hundreds of millions.
I never finished RE7 or 8 but enjoyed them immensely for the hours I did spend, if they start to suck at hour 12 or something, then ohhhh well you got me, boy aren't I the asshole for having a week's worth of video game fun and pleasant memories.
So what is any of this? We have a set number of hours to play games, if they are fun in those hours they should be purchased, if they can't even do that right then they should be avoided. I do not understand anyone trying to make a 60 hour game. Oh, and this is all before personal preference with genre. The RPS review (not that one specifically, but any reviewer) is not being honest with themselves. They can't complete the assignment and get the views in time and give the material what it deserves, if it deserves any time at all!

Icons in the lower left. If they're green, something needs doing. NT by Mischief Maker 03/08/2022, 3:37pm PST
Also try the skirmish mode. Anyone who calls this game an auto-battler is wrong. NT by Mischief Maker 03/08/2022, 3:48pm PST
