It's an isomorphic ... uh... kind of Zelda-like game? Although I can't help but see a lot of Dark Souls elements in it as well. Like, it has the exact same bonfire system as Dark Souls and they're even literal bonfies.
The gimmick in Tunic is that you actually don't know how to play when you start, and you have to learn by collecting pieces of the manual. Separate from that, there is some plot about a lost civilization or some shit. I don't know how these two plot elements interact, exactly.
The gameplay feels pretty good, but the difficulty curve is a bit weird in places. Too easy sometimes, too hard in others. There are a few bosses that feel a bit too hard.
They kind of went a bit nuts with the secrets. And since it's isomorphic, a lot of the secrets are just walking into places that are literally invisible because of the camera angle. I didn't mind it too much, but I can see how some people might be annoyed.
One thing that does annoy me is that there is a perceptible delay between pressing the shield key and having the character raise his shield. I guess this is realistic, or something, but... come on, man. Come on.
The graphic design is pretty good. On the whole, worth playing. |
