Where does Family Feud get the answers to the "We surveyed 100 people..."? by Tansin A. Darcos 08/31/2022, 11:13pm PDT
Someone (probably on Reddit) asked where the producers of Family Feud get the responses to "We surveyed 100 people..." or "We asked 100 wives..." questions. It was claimed that they probably just made them up, as, it was estimated, for the number of people who responded, they would have to have asked over 1.2 million people, and the person asking had never met anyone who was asked a survey question for Family Feud.

First, I'm going to say that I don't think they make up the answers. It's too easy to get answers. First, they could probably harvest 10 new questions every day from the audience of the show. Typically, shows record 5 episodes 1 after another on the same day, so they could have everyone wgo volunteers put into a prize pool and someone wins a prize. Next, they can hire a telephone survey company to randomly ask enough people to get 100 answers. The company doing the polling might not even say for whom they are asking.

Now, as for not knowing any people who were surveyed by Family Feud, first, if it was telephone surveys, the called party might not even know it was from them. Second, if the people answering were Family Feud audience members, well, first, you'd have to live in Southern California and more specifically in the Los Angeles area, or know someone who visited L.A. as a tourist and went to see a taping of the show. Now, as for numbers, say up until 2020, there were 300 people in each audience, you could easily ask two groups to answer 5 questions, giving 10 each day, culling the 100 most popular answers from the 150 people answering each question. Now, with the pandemic they probably used lots more telephone surveys, possibly paying people $25 to answer 25 questions, then giving them the gift card number over the phone. They could also be doing mail-in surveys.
