I've been trying out paint-by-number games on Android. Finding and filling in the various colors can be relaxing and quite satisfying, and since it's free, much cheaper than the hand-done way: buy an easel, canvases, brushes, and paint. No muss, no fuss. (Besides, most amateur painters know their original works will not be all that good, so you're not wasting money learning how to paint, at least, not unless you actually want to learn to paint.) In the case I'm talking about, you - or at least I - just want the fun of painting, not the work of painting.
It's also a lot more fun on a 10.1" tablet than a 7" phone.
When using a paint-by-number program on Android, and probably other platforms if available, there is a crucial feature that all paint programs should have: auto-select of colors. Normally, when using a paint program, you select an image, it is loaded onto the screen, a row of colors appears below the image, and it waits for you to press the color button to select the color of the region you want to paint. It then highlights all the areas required to have that color. When all of the areas for any specific color are completed, that color disappears, from the palette. It now waits for you to select the next color to paint. Once the palette is empty, the painting is completed, and you're done.
Auto-select color goes this one better. When the image is first displays, it automatically chooses color 1. If you want to do some other color, you just select it by touching that color. Once all the areas of the color that you're painting, that color disappears, and the numerically next unfinished color is auto-selected. If you're on the highest numbered color remaining and finish, it disappears and the program auto-selects the highest numbered remaining color. You can still pick any color you want to do at any time. Very slick, and in my opinion, a must-have feature of any paint-by-number program. |
