Now that over 20 years have passed, I reckon it's safe to confess my "cyber crimes." Not long after he took down the OMM forums, Chet accused me of hacking for editing site URLs.

Like a lot of posters, I went over to the POE forums for a bit after Chet shut down OMM. While there, I noticed that the only difference between the two forums was a single digit in the URL. I knew Chet ran a whole "network" of other sites, some of them likely with their own forums, so I tried incrementing the URL number to see where else it would take me. I think the next number above POE took me to POE News. I don't recall if there were any more after that, but they stopped working pretty quickly, and I gave up after a few failed attempts.

Chet would later accuse me of trying to find the OMM forums, and I will admit the possibility did cross my mind. But I didn't seriously believe he would be that careless. I mean, you can even download browser extensions that will automatically increment URL numbers for you. If what I did qualifies as "hacking," then those developers belong in prison. Still, Chet made it clear that I done goofed and consequences would never be the same. Even though I thought he was being kind of ridiculous, I felt bad for upsetting him, and offered a sincere apology. When I tried to go to the POE forum the next day, it wouldn't load, so I assume he saw my post and blocked my IP.
