Not trying to hype this up past this post, it'll be my last one that contains any general 'go get the game' sense - it's just that this update has included conversion of the code structure to what will likely be the final form and one flexible enough to support modding and prevent future progress wipes when updates are published.
This update's details and the roadmap from here are available on the dev's feeds and site and discord and wherever else, but in essence:
-your ship is now upgradeable with a heap of different functions requiring salvaged items to get operational, and while this slows down early game somewhat it does add a lot more game functions
-your merc supersoldiers can be tweaked with gene modification and will probably get cybernetics in a later update
-bringing back more items is no longer borderline impossible for many missions, as there are upgrade paths for using retrieval shuttles and pods for some key loot whether or not you die
-manufacturing items has far more quality of life features like queues and so on, and item blueprint improvements can make your guns better
-item recycling, scavenging, trade, mission generation, and faction relations can be improved by other ship systems
There's also more content of various kinds, more weapon synergies and bonus types, the usual rebalancing, and a nerf in the form of items no longer being autorepaired when you get back to base. The modders have more or less immediately coalesced around the game and built a platform for tweaking it all of two days after the devs added mod support, and naturally one of the first mods halves item degradation rates.
Seems like an okay time to jump on, though I could understand waiting until there's more polish. Speaking of the polish, I'm sure I've got some eastern/central euro ethnic strife to do so I'm gonna go get on that and leave you all to whatever you're doing. |
