Can someone explain to me this "world" thing? Even if there aren't football leagues in other countries (which I have no idea if there are or not), the teams playing for the Super Bowl are all American teams. Why aren't they just National champions?? And what is up with the "World Series"?? It's not like we're playing with teams from Japan. It's all American teams (except for those Montreal and Toronto guys, but including Canada doesn't really make it a "world" competition). Tell me someone just exaggerated a long time ago, and my OCD is flaring up.
Yeah, it's just an exaggeration. And it's wrong, since the World League follows NFL guidelines, and I believe Japanese baseball does too, as well as Chinese basketball. BUT AMURICANS INVENTED THEM GAMES SO WE MUST BY DEFAULT BE THE BEST AT THEM.
Anyway, I didn't think the Super Bowl was a great game. I mean, I still enjoyed watching it, but it wasn't nearly as exciting as last year's. I had hoped that it would be a better matchup, but with Gannon running around with his thumb up his ass I guess there wasn't much hope. Oh well. At least I got to see Gruden's cute little face a lot, and that's all that matters.
Football as a sport carries with it a trade-off that sets it apart from other popular sports, thanks to its brutality. Since it's such a tough game, you can't play 3/5/7 game series in playoffs or championships, unless you want the Superbowl to last a month, since the games still need to be a week apart. It's fine enough for real fans of football, every game in the short season is important, but the trade-off is you only get one chance to win every playoff game, one chance to win the Lombardi. I mean, think about how things might have gone if the playoffs were best two out of three. Would SF have beat out the Giants? Tennessee the Steelers? Would Tampa have still won, if Gannonand Co. had been able to regroup their offense for at least one more game? Regardless, that's why complaints about the Superbowl usually come up - it's usually not the most exciting game of the year, never mind the stakes.
