I initially passed on this because I heard the Star Raiders port was bugged on higher difficulties and never fixed, but GOG put it on sale for $10 and how could I say no to that?
I've bought Atari emulator compilations before, and they've had better game selections, but the presentation as an interactive museum exhibit really elevates the experience. You're learning the history of Atari, you're seeing videos of the programmers talk about their experiences cobbling these games together, you're seeing design documents and focus group evaluations, then you get to sample the final product yourself.
There's a clearly marked shortcut to skip the museum portion and go straight to the games, but the game selection is lacking (no Activision games) so if you have zero interest in the history of Atari skip it.
It's a lot closer to the experience I wanted out of "Arcade Paradise," even though I emphasize again this feels like a museum exhibit more than an arcade. |
