Remasters stopped making sense once we hit the PS2 era of nostalgia. Games had stopped being hideous first gen 3D triangles by then, and that's when the diminishing return of graphical generations began.
In fact, remember how everyone thought Silent Hill 2's graphics looked bad at first? Barely better than a PS2? Then they turned off the noise filter to see how good the graphics really were, but quickly realized it made the game less atmospheric and scary?
Point is, nobody needed to pay $70 to see extra uncanny valley facial details of James Sunderland attempting to grimace as he watches Pyramid Head fuck a mannequin from the closet. The only needed updates are resolution and widescreen format. $70 for that?
On a side note, I just saw the stupidest remaster yet. Remember how pointless the remaster of the The Last of Us on PS3 was? Well now they just released the remaster of Until Dawn, the Supermassive Games PSfour horror game. We're remastering games for a system with games still being sold on store shelves? Fuck OFF with that. |
