| I have this friend. A white dude. I can't say we're close friends, we don't hang out around the backyard barbeque and shoot the shit or anything, but he's a social acquaintance or whatever. Despite growing up steeped in a culture that despises all things white, I do have some white friends. Or something like friends, anyway...
I've known this guy for probably 9 years or more. I just found out like a year ago that he's a Mason, or Freemason or whatever the fuck you call them. He told me his titles and rank degree, but it didn't mean anything to me at the time. The whole concept of this international brotherhood surrounded in this haze of secrecy is... fascinating to me. I have this quality, I'm told, of childlike exhuberance. It also seems I have a problem of exhausting people with questions when I find something interesting. I don't notice when I do it, but other people tell me it's... off-putting. Is that how you say it? Disconcerting. *shrug* I have a huge appetite for knowledge, I guess... So sometimes when we're together, this friend and I, the conversation comes up on something Mason-related. So I was grilling him not long ago, and he finally said, "Look, if you're so interested, why don't you join to find out what it's all about?" Hmmm. Like I said, he's not a close friend, or he would understand the folly of that. I've already paid way too high a price by joining up with a group when you don't understand all the possible ramifications involved. Lots of things look great from the outside. I told him I'd think about it, which to me means "I'll research this thing voraciously, run it by the most cynical people I know, etc. and if it looks legit, maybe, MAYBE I'll think about it." My first wave of research is getting me more confused than I started, though. Objective data is FUCKING HARD TO FIND. Especially about something like the Masons. ESPECIALLY on the 'net. I've found information spanning the gamut from "harmless fez-wearing, tiny-motorcycle riding philanthropists for burnt kids" to "THE MASONS ARE THE MEN BEHIND THE MEN BEHIND THE STAR CHAMBER BEHIND THE GOVERNMENT!! MASONS RUN THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD, YOU FOOL!" The strata of paranoid conspiracies get worse the deeper you spelunk into some of these sites, Christ. I do know every U.S. president has been a Mason, which is enough by itself to set my paranoid-sense tingling... So, does the answer lie somewhere in between? I just don't know. Will affiliation with the Masons, combined with ruthless cunning and ambition, attain me power and wealth beyond dreaming? Will I be able to someday point at my enemies and have them fucking die at my feet? WILL I GAZE, UNBLINKING, INTO THE VERY EYES OF THE ALMIGHTY?! IS THERE ANY LIMIT TO MY LUST?!! Or... is this an invitation to fatten up their ranks with a token minority member for the sake of PC? If that's true, obviously, I want no part of it. If it's the harmless social fraternity the members claim, based on Morality, Brotherly Love, and the Truth, then that's one thing. If it's the front for ruthless social and political influence others claim it is, obviously that's something else. Maybe I'll never find out the truth here. I've grown to be suspicious and paranoid out of neccessity. This whole thing stinks to high Hell of something to me, but I can't nail it down. I just know you have to be extremely cautious where you throw your support, and you need to be very clear about who it is you're climbing into bed with. I'm trying to live a righteous life, do you see? I haven't always succeeded with that, God knows, but I've always tried. I'm on the path now. I FOUND IT. Maybe I don't need some silly group to reaffirm that for me. Besides, the whole thing seems more than just a little gay, really. Me in a fez, talking to the Grand Poohbah? Please...
