| I just finished up a side job. Had to go through manually categorizing thousands of prompts for Perplexity. Felt dirty for taking it.
Anyway, nothing will convince you what an overhyped nothing burger AI is more than seeing what it's used for. 80%- Using for search and filter functions that already exist. Half of these were "display emails marked as priority". Also summarizing, as if the concept of skimming did not exist until we dumped a trillion into data centers. 10%- Spammers trying to further automate email spamming and social media comment bots. 7%- Students cheating on online quizzes and course assignments. 3%- Niche cases of maybe kinda sorta sometimes useful tasks. (2 prompts to display search results for "granny" on porn sites) Investors are throwing everything into AI because venture capitalist heads and billionaires are so disconnected from the real world, they think all there is to work is answering a few emails. Hence AI can replace all the work. and this fucking slide into the stupidest dystopia. |
