Not you, Grace. I get it. She's a desk agent thrown into zombies and giant monsters. She's scared. That's relatable! B-b-b-b-but J-J-J-esus Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-rist, th-th-they o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-over d-d-d-did the s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-s-stuttering. Even when she's talking to a little girl! And now that I think about it, even when she was talking to her boss before she was ever in any danger. Someone at Capcom dared to ask what it would be like to play someone with severe social anxiety disorder in a zombie apocalypse.

So far, it's a middling RE. 4 is still the best by a country mile, and the way this one is shaping up it won't be better than 1, 2, or 8. Remember Mr. X and the baby sequence from 8? How would you like to do that half a dozen times? It's a shame they didn't learn the lesson from RE4 of having something unique and surprising every 10 minutes and instead made it so repetitive.

The difficulty seems wildly off balance. At the beginning of Grace's sequence, I found ammo to be incredibly scarce and when you shot zombies it would alert nearby zombies in other rooms and they'd come lumbering in. I found myself completely out of ammo half the time. I figured Grace's sequence leaned hard into survival horror and the theme was avoidance and using weapons as a last resort. I was ok with this, and it would have made a nice contrast to Leon's segment being more action oriented. But then there was a sudden turning point where I had 50 handgun ammo, 10 magnum rounds, knives, and those hypodermic needles that make zombies explode. I was flush with so much ammunition that I wiped out everything. When I got to play as Leon, it was clear that whatever Grace left behind was what Leon had to deal with. This turned out to be basically nothing, so I flew through his sequence in a few minutes, mostly just gathering items and collectibles that Grace couldn't. Pretty dull.

Honestly, I think the biggest mistake is fucking crafting. Both as a concept and because I think this is the source of the imbalance. The scarcity and difficulty were completely mitigated by just being able to craft piles of ammo and supplies.
