This is just a visual novel. I'm not going to judge the story. What irritates me about this game and all of the others like it is, ok, someone has a story they really wanted to tell. Cool. They picked an interactive medium. Why? What am I going to do with a controller or mouse and keyboard that can't be captured in a book or a Youtube video? And the answer is inevitably, "nothing really." They've got their story but then can't figure out anything for you to actually DO. This is a game that's been given sloppy blowjobs and nominated for all kinds of awards based on the poignancy of the story because no one will just come out and say things like, "hey, maybe dragging a button across the screen along a predetermined path is fucking boring." "Maybe awkwardly swirling a button around in a big circle doesn't capture the anxiety of getting ready for a first date." And that means these things will never get better and will continue to just be Shitty WarioWare, while assholes like me will just get written off as not being the proper audience.
It was shooting for trying to convey how the simplest of every day actions becomes a struggle for someone with dementia or whatever, and how you start hating everything around you for failing at them.
It's not something I would enjoy playing or pay money for, but if this was part of some mental illness awareness educational packet, I guess it would have some value? |
