A few studios tied to flagship franchises, like this case, have been given an opportunity to make a single product. Higher scrutiny means that funding could be cut at any time. They have to sell the pants off to this CEO at every quarterly review. Either way, it's the end of having those dev costs covered by Microsoft.
I think the "New Vegas 2" rumors are just fans wish casting, although anything's possible. Two things seem to be more accurate right now: the studio doesn't know what it's going to do yet, and nobody knows what -if anything- will impress the CEO.
Right. I'd buy a console for Morrowind 2 or New Vegas 2 and I hope to never buy a console again. Making great games is all Nintendo is doing and they will survive forever.
Here is how I would fix it:
"Hey Sam, I need some RAM."
"you dont control us or tell us what to do anymore"
"Give us some RAM from the wafers you reserved so we can make more Xboxes or every machine on Earth running Windows will pop up a full screen message about how you got that guy killed. You can whine to Trump about it if you don't like it, make sure he knows you're gay."
"here's some ram."
Boom, costs for Xboxes can go back down to where they were.
Game Pass reverses the price hike and no new exclusives will start there. Maybe they do eventually or maybe they do for two weeks or whatever, but this whole shit about getting the best games on Xbox for $15 is over. This is now something you get your fat kids to shut them up over the summer.
Announce Wasteland 4, new Elder Scrolls game, something new with Doom and Halo, Diablo 5. Whatever and et al. Even if they are not specifically called that, you take your IP and make exclusive games that people can't live without. Start by banging away at nostalgia and memberberries and shift to new stuff. I assume Clockwork Revolution is close, it sounds squee as hell, but whatever, you now need an Xbox to play it. Make a game with a cool peripheral everyone has to have like they did with Steel Battalion so it moves hardware. Sell an exclusive console with DONKEY.BAS branding (kidding on that one).
AI is now only used to make senior devs faster & more effective and teach/correct juniors: not a spec of generative AI is used for content. IF ONLY because a growing number of people won't buy games that use it and we're not going to kill off any part of the market. But also because games will be better on Xbox because humans made them.
Bring in more QA for software and make sure the Xbox that people buy is the most bulletproof console in gaming history. I can drag a 2600 or NES out of a moldy basement and it will work. That's the standard now. Fire everyone who doesn't understand that systems at Microsoft need to work together. There should be one Xbox online store, it should be the same experience on the web and console, it should work from a phone, Xbox and desktop so people have no friction to buy games. Fix their checkout software or bring in something else that is better. And for sales - I am aware of every summer and autumn sale Steam has. Xbox will now have predictable and eventful sales that are just as "famous."
No more footguns, no more gaffs, no more renaming shit just to rename it. If you can't talk to the press without saying the stupidest and most tone deaf shit anyone has ever heard, get the fuck out and go work at Ford. When the woke mob got James Gunn fired from Marvel, DC scooped him up. And because of that, the worst character in DC Comics history, Peacemaker, has the best superhero show ever made. Microsoft's competition will or has already let someone go because of stupid reasons. Find those people and hire them and set them loose. Pinback made the best version of Pac-Man on planet earth and while they don't own Pac-Man, they own Pitfall!, Freeway and Kaboom!. I'm sure he'd love to make H.E.R.O. 3000 in exchange for a steady job to walk him to the end of his professional career.
Microsoft owns Starcraft, all anyone does in Korea is play Starcraft, why is there not a new online version of Starcraft? The guy who produced it isn't at Blizzard any more, what is he doing?
Etc etc etc. Or just let the AI gal that failed upwards let a bunch of people go, that will also fix it. What do I know, I screwed up recalling the quality of the HoMM franchise. I am joking with half of this, but Jesus Christ, they won't do anything because they can't possibly think of anything to do. |
