Poor people don't own and operate farms. To grow enough crops at a scale that you can sell them and make a reasonable living requires probably at least ~$1,000,000 in land, assuming they're not renting. Then on top of that, equipment is going to cost several hundred thousand if not more, because farmers aren't buying rakes and hand tillers from the Walmart Garden center. If they need farmhands, that's tens of thousands in labor. Then there's their house and multiple cars they own. So all of the farmers choking back tears over losing their farms are just rich people selling off a $1,000,000+ in assets they wish they didn't have to. Bummer. |
