Hey BB, when you ran this, did you have any stalling/crashing problems? I know you have a Radeon 9700 as well, which is why I am asking you.
The Unreal 2 boards have a hoard of faggots crying over the same thing, none of them are thinking what I am. Which is that this is a Gart/8xAGP issue. something to do with Via vs. ATI's implimentation. though for all my bullshit I haven't gotten it to run past the point when you leave the Marshall HQ/Tutorial planet and start the game. Motherfuck!
If it's a general protection fault, try turning EAX off. EAX causes the game to crash every 10 minutes.
Otherwise I'd say you've got gremlins.
Because I am so very anal I decide to clean install XP on another volume, clean and squeaky new drivers for all the componants. EAX = False in the unreal2.ini file... no luck.
It's a Via P4PB board, I am convinced it has something to do with the 4in1 gart versus the ATI gart. Then again I was also convinced that joyce dewitt was hotter then susan summers, so what the fuck do I know. What I should have done was hold out for that intel 850 mainboard.
Try bumping it down to 4x agp - I know VIA had instability in the past with 4x agp, maybe that engineering knowhow moved on to 8x. In advanced tweakers BIOSs, you can also modify the AGP driving value. I'd suggest looking up what the recommended setting would be when fiddling with this. Another option would be to bump up your 3.3v power leg to 3.4 or 3.5. More power = more stability for power-slurping AGP cards (up to the point where you short out your entire machine, so don't go above 3.5).

Many thanks.
Oddly after passing the above mentioned crash point, I saved and set it back to 8x. It still works, I am thinking: Patch.
::okay this is the weird. I posted this already, if this same response appears randomly elsewhere... I always thought flashbacks where a myth. |
