I learned how to drive in New England in an '86 Toyota Corolla with RWD. That car could go through anything. Two feet deep liquid mud, Vermont dirt mountain roads full of holes, snow and ice, everything. I could always drive forward out of everything. I got so used to putting my front wheels in the snowbanks and mud puddles when I had limited room to manuever - since it didn't matter much where I put them - that I got stuck several times in quick succession when the next car I owned turned out to be FWD. Ah memories.

As for the weight, I used to put concrete blocks in my trunk. Never had problems that I didn't cause myself being a stupid teen.
