Original Command and Conquer: Abandonware? by Alternate789 02/17/2003, 3:58pm PST
C&C seems to be the hot topic around here, and everyone's always jerking the original, but never mentions playing it recently. I, on the other hand, still have my copy of the game.

Utilizing my 1337 h4x0ring skills I've ripped full ISOs (movies, music and all) of both GDI and NOD CDs. Actually, I just used Nero. There wasn't any copy protection whatsoever. I've burned them onto CD-Rs and they do work. Here was my plan: upload them both (a combined 916 MB) to a free hosting site like Angelfire or Geocities, then link to them here. My friend once used a free hosting site (I forget which) for storage for a month or two before he was caught (but then again, nobody was downloading the files but him).

Assuming I can upload them and keep it secret for a week or so, would I be able to link to the page from here (and perhaps more importantly, would anyone be interested in downloading it?) ? It's not being sold on the Westwood website, does that mean it's unsupported abandonware? It also isn't on the oldwarez list, but I have no idea how complete that is. Or would it be warez because the Command and Conquer name is trademarked or copyrighted or what-have-you?
