What Sucks about Nethack? by Mischief Maker 03/30/2003, 10:27pm PST I'll be reviewing nethack in about a week, but I don't have much time to play the actual game. I was wondering if anyone off the top of their heads could list some things about Nethack that suck for me to look out for. Things I already know suck about it: -No Plot (The entire point of an RPG) -No Graphics or Sound (A minor complaint because there's plenty of frontends available) -Shitty Interface -You need to feed your character -1/3 of the items in the game WILL CURSE YOU and aren't identified. -You always have to waste time waiting for your pet to catch up or the gods will be angered. -Every level there's at least one room or hallway where you suddenly have to stop and hit the "search" button 20 times to reveal the "Secret Door" you GODDAMN KNOW IS THERE until you either give up, starve to death, or luck out and reveal the door. (This was the game-killer for me.) -The strength of the randomly generated monsters is directly tied to your current level (So much for that feeling of escalating power) Those are the main ones I could think of. Anyone got other points to throw on the bonfire?
