Gay, of course, means that something is gay and is at least tangentially involved with bug-hunting and buttfucking. Using the word "gay" to mean that you're feeling happy just means that you're happy about cock.

"Gaily" on the other hand, still seems to have retained its happy-go-luckiness, while incorporating a certain level of cock-cravitude. You typed this, and I picture SB typing away, bouncing in his seat, and making a little "attaboy" shadowpunch at the end while sighing contentedly.
