It can be found at Home Of The Underdogs - just search under 'r', for whatever reason they don't want people linking directly to their files or even the page they have for the game in question.
Anyway, it's another game by the minimalism fan's ultimate wet dream who did Noiz2SA, whatever his name is. Yes, it's pretty good. Hard to say if it's an actual improvement since all you do is fight boss enemies who fire progressively crazier and crazier patterns at you, and there are no random "infinite" stages. But there are 40 basic stages, a good many of which are basically fucking impossible. The game also boasts four 'modes' - you choose which mode you want to play in, then pick the stage:
Yes, Fabio, "IKA" is short for Ikaruga Mode - you get to play real-time Othello if you want by pressing 'x' to switch between 'light' and 'dark' mode. You want to absorb bullets that are the same as your color, as you'll automatically fire a laser at the enemy for every bullet absorbed. Likewise, avoid the opposite color. (Hint: I find the red bullets to be really hard to spot against the purple background compared to the white ones, so I always stay in 'dark' mode since I'm always colliding with red bullets I can't see well.) I don't think it's as bad (or perfectly ordinary) as Fabio would have you believe, but it doesn't make me understand the madd propz Ikaruga received.
With "PSY", you want bullets to graze you but not actually HIT you. Every time you're grazed your power bar fills up, and upon filling it you unleash a special attack. 'x' causes your "graze range" to increase but slows you down.
"GW" gives you a reflector - your gauge fills continually, when it's full you hold down 'x' to drain it, when it's fully drained you'll be surrounded by a shield that reflects missiles at the enemy.
"Normal" is pretty much exactly that - 'x' launches a "bomb" that really is more like a stationary shield that absorbs enemy bullets. While you're firing in "normal" mode, you move slowly. |
