Richard Bartle makes an extended version of the argument I present against the voice design point in MMORPGs in my currently unposted piece on 8 critical design points in MMORPGs here. His reasons and conclusions mirror my own - speech to text and text to speech (hopefully with an 'emotional markup language' in the future) are infinitely preferrable to voice chat in MMORPGs, save I would change his 'not yet you fools!' to 'never ever ever you fools!'
Apologies for reposting a slashdot link, but the point is worth discussing.
