Not really, no. But I will mention that the 5900 Ultra was such a disappointment (the Detonator drivers were current, it never magically transmorgified into a better part than the 9800Pro) that I swapped the parts back out before doing any formal testing. Sorry to disappoint you, you may all have your money back. If it where at least (in my opinion) close, I would have taken the time. It was not close and life is too short to dick with an annoying part while a superior one is sitting three feet away, on a shelf, under a beam of light cast from the heavens.
BRILLIANT DEDUCTIVE CONCLUSIONS BASED ON ZERO (0) SCIENTIFIC DATA:
The press is telling me that my 5900 ULT-TRA really comes into its own at 1600x1200 with FSAA on high. I tend to believe that is bullshit since RtCW:ET ran like a solid chunk of Gouda through my lower intestines at 1280x1024 With everything (FSAA, Anisitropic filtering, etc...) on.
Perhaps if I migrated from a Geforce 4 card, the NV35 would have been more impressive. But I migrated from a 128MB 9700 to a 256MB 9800Pro and both cards handily skullfucked the NV35 in terms of image quality and stability, not to mention speed at every resolution and with the cards locked it at maximum "quality" settings. Not to mention the NV part comes on this monster card that looks like a ancient ISA tube driven twisted pair NIC card and takes up two slots (AGP+PCI) whereas the 9800Pro is an elegant thing indeed. I would not mind it if the chunky size equalled greater competence and/or more features, it is not so.
I honestly wanted the NVIDIA card to smoke the competition, NVIDIA has never given me anything but good times while in the (now distant) past ATI has caused me more trouble then their (previously) shitty hardware was ever worth. The tables are turned, ATI has produced superior hardware and the French own Atari, it's a sad time to be an American.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Avoid the 5900FX Ultras the same why you successfully avoided the other 5x00FX cards. Or as previously stated and until further changes in fabrication: Fuck NVIDIA. |
