You have no idea, since you probably never even noticed the Omega ruins sidequest. It was a combination of all the other minigames, in a format that was wholly unadvertised (like, not even letting you know that you are in a minigame), and victory, even if you did everything perfectly, had only like a 19% chance of being yours.
I beat the false Omega and eventually made it to the "real" Omega, got my ass kicked and gave up. That dungeon pissed me off; first time I got to it random enemies were giving me Lv3 and 4 key spheres like crazy. The instant I go to have Yuno leran Ultima so I can double cast it they all dry up. I never got Ultima :(.
I think even my cat-person was double casting Ultima. I'd check, but I fear that suicide will be the only choice if I ever see that game again. In any case, I got a lot more use out of Yuna once I sent her around Auron's part of the grid for a while. Her juiced up summons made everything beyond Bahamut pretty much extraneous.
The real Omega was only a small part of the Omega dungeon debacle, and a comparatively easy one. The minigame I am talking about involves those goddamn 12 chests scattered throughout the dungeon. There is a secret, rhythm based pattern in which you have to open them in sequence to a)avoid their disappearance and b)avoid them turning into mimics. If you can by some rare miracle (for which the probabilities have been calculated by Gamefaqqers at about 19% with no error) open the last chest, you get 99 warp spheres. Since I have no rhythm, I had to rely on my girlfriend for that one, and she gave up after getting to the last chest like 10 times and then it fucking up for no reason.
Yeah but for SH i want to try out all the cool stuff they give you but fuck beating the game in under 90 minutes. I could make it 80% of the way then realize I'm never going to make it and be screwed. Also, Silent Hill 2 had this one ending that supposedly was hillarious, but required that you beat the game something like 2-4 times and get certain endings previously (all the endings were reached via totally arbitrary in-game actions). By the 3rd run through I said fuck it.
What can I say? All I had at the time was a Dreamcast, and my Tennis 2k2 characters were already maxed out. I won't pretend it was a good thing, but it sure entertained me for about 2 weeks.
Maybe it was because by comparison it rocked compared to running from town to town being told you just missed Sephiroth over and over once you reached the overworld map? I dunno. I thought it rocked. Maybe I got caught up in how revolutionary the graphics and change of pace for an RPG it was at the time? I'd still replay it over shit like 8.
I can see that. I think it was really the crossdressing thing that took me way longer to pass than, say, the Midgard serpent, that ruined it for me.
Maybe it's because the story is totally ruined by MGS2 deciding to mockingly rip it off? Sort of like reading a MAD movie parody then watching the movie?
No FP shooting, although I dont miss it considering it sucked any semblance of challenge out of MGS2 when they failed to extend the visual range of guards to compensate.
Possibly. Although I will say that extreme and European extreme went a long way in undoing any inadequacies on the part of the guards line of sight, and I promise that will be my last plug for Substance in this post. Probably.
I'd still rather have a jailbait option for Rikku.
Good choice. For some reason, she was the one tossing me the blitzball on the rare occasions I used Blitz Ace. So I guess the FF relationship meter was tilting in that direction as well.
My post-Sin sidequests consisted of getting Yuna and Tidus's ultimate weapons (FUCKING CHOCOBOS!), attempting but giving up that lightning field and butterfly bullshit, then making it to the "real" Omega weapons and giving up. Jesus though, 68000 damage for Wakka? I thought it was badass when I got Yuna's damage up to 12,000 from casting Holy (she was pretty much the only heavy hitter; Tidus with his ultimate weapon and overdrive only dished out about 4000). My max hitpoints for my characters was also only about 3k-4.5k. No wonder I got slaughtered.
I went Butterfly Hunting. I played Blitzball. I conned my girlfriend into dodging lightning. Hell, the only one I was never able to complete was Super Catcher Fucker Chocobo, which will remain one of the more embittering experiences in rpg history. Fucking invisible boundaries.
The key I found was using those teleport spheres to send everyone down auron's track or thereabouts at some point, saving up all the str +3 and 4 and the like for it. Thus Rikku could hit for a solid 17,000 or so, for example. Basically, I was just trying to see what further incongruities I could create within the system. Then, I realized all you have to do to win virtually every fight short of a Don Tonberry was equip Yuna with a plus 10%,20%,30% HP item and summon the magus sisters. After the stat bumping from her earlier sphere grid movements, they were fucking tanks with 10-15000 hp.
The Yu Yevon fight? That thing was a joke. They did the exact thing they did with one boss fight from Xenogears. He just kept casting that spell that reduced everyone's hitpoints to one-third and massively healed himself every time you attacked him. You were supposed to hold out until he had reduced his hitpoints enough through that fractional hp spell (gravija?) until he was weak enough to kill in one hit.
Huh. I guess it really is a very different game when you are at some risk of dying. I'll think about that as I powerlevel my way through WA3.
Traded it in for $13 credit at Electronics Boutique which I put towards purchasing C&C: Generals. Did I get robbed? Yes. Am I getting more than one-fourth the enjoyment out of Generals than I did with FFX? Yes.
Good move. At least I got 20$ for Xenosaga...FFX I kept around for the express purpose of silencing PS2 graphics bashers. Come to think of it, Zone of the Enders 2 probably does a better job and doesn't make me homicidal, so perhaps it is time to be rid of it. Then again, store credit doesn't exist here, since 95% of store games are pirated. |
