I want to save his terrible prose for future generations by mark 08/19/2005, 2:05pm PDT
And thought people might enjoy how brain destroyingly stupid he is. Just as Taibbi points out in his columns about NYTimes superstar Thomas Friedman , it is amazing to watch a man who cannot put a sentence together to save his life. As Taibbi says in one article

This would be a small thing were it not for the overall pattern. Thomas Friedman does not get these things right even by accident. It's not that he occasionally screws up and fails to make his metaphors and images agree. It's that he always screws it up. He has an anti-ear, and it's absolutely infallible; he is a Joyce or a Flaubert in reverse, incapable of rendering even the smallest details without genius. The difference between Friedman and an ordinary bad writer is that an ordinary bad writer will, say, call some businessman a shark and have him say some tired, uninspired piece of dialogue: Friedman will have him spout it. And that's guaranteed, every single time. He never misses.

I believe that Scribble is one of the great non-writers of our generation. He is wholly and hilariously without even a shred of skill, often unable to even finish a sentence, instead leaving them as a dangling fragment drowning in needless "&" symbols. Buwler-Lytton managed to actually express concepts, as painfully cliched as they might have been... Scribble is so terrible he thinks it is due to some cosmic mixup that he scores pathetically on an a test evaluating his academic skill. He actually believes he could be a "fucking world beater" and happily applies to a Ph.D. program.

Also his life is worth mocking. He also made up (or even better, actually has) a horrible brain illness which he used to lure his girlfriend back from Italy where she was spending her summer trying to ignore him. After she gets into a car accident he is so jealous he pretends to have some brain realted spastic episode so that she will have to baby him, then describes insane scenarios, like feeling as if he has a stomach full of battery acid or being laughed at by construction workers. Or sitting at the dinner table crying while his family ignores him. Or screaming at Italian florists for not understanding his requests. Or whose father phones him about refridgerator parts while his son is "dying," which is taken as the ultimate insult. Lots of people have described bad writers, but there is no literary genius who could craft a man so insanely stupid, talentless, selfish and confused.

So that's why I'm obsessed.
