ICJ, I close this with a "to be continued", as I would invite you to further discuss Gauntlet as one of the best quarter eating games of all time. Dying in Gauntlet, is that even possible?
I had Gauntlet 2 for the Atari ST. This was, then, my favorite game ever1-- even ahead of Dungeon Master or Photon Storm. One day, the 4th player stopped working correctly, always running left and doing nothing else. I tried it on another machine and the 3rd player was fucked. Being young and naive, I sent the disk back to Mindscape for a replacement (along with a SASE with american stamps). Of course, I never received anything in return and have been slightly depressed whenever the subject of Gauntlet has come up since.
1It goes without saying that I actually liked Jumpman, Jumpman Jr., and possibly Ultimate Wizard more...but those were for the C64, which was old. Gauntlet 2 and the Atari ST Mega 4 was the future. |
