The story makes it pretty clear that the term "splinter cell" comes from Comrade Chomsky's vision of his army as a "glass sword" which, when attacked, will splinter into a number of small, autonomous cells capable of striking at the imperialist occupying forces and then receding into the general population. Why then is Splinter Cell also used throughout the game as some kind of codename for sig-int ninja Sam Fisher? Wouldn't that get kind of confusing? GORDON: LISTEN UP BATMAN, WE NEED YOU TO STOP CHOMSKY BEFORE HE CAN UNLEASH HIS FORCE OF BATMANS. It's almost like the designers couldn't understand - or didn't trust players to understand - that "Peanuts" and "Charlie Brown" are two separate ideas :( |
