I guess everyone has had a boss from hell. But why does the abused postdoc accept the beatings and never whip out a piece and start beating the guy over the head?
I love "How I got away from the bully" stories because there are a billion of them, they are all exactly alike, and none of them end with the problem permanently solved. It's just left there like an awful dong in the middle of a girl's school, waiting for the next victim to impale herself upon it. Nobody ever bullies the bully. The going rhetoric is always "he has powerful friends".... right, like he's going to go to these powerful friends and be all "that new postdoc... he pulled a Springfield 1911 mspec on me!" That's mega-plausible. But the victim always starts his story with "I didn't tell...because I couldn't believe it was happening to me!"
