+ Goran Bregovic - Songs For Weddings And Funerals: Bunches of intersting reinterpretations of traditional Balkan music. Bregovic is famous for being a bridge artist, the kind of guy who works with Brian Eno and Bill Laswell but also gets down with the commoners in his little shameful backwater hole. I like this album a lot! It has a nice clean modern sound, but the music has the soul and depth of traditional roads well-travelled.
He's no Muammer Ketencoglu, but if you like your Balkan reinterpreted then yeah, sure.
Meanwhile, I mostly agree.

I got that album, I listened to that album, and here is what I thought about that album:
Maybe the world has played their Smashing Pumpkins records right into the GROUND but I don't have that problem. I think Arcade Fire is what you listen to after you've played your Smashing Pumpkins records right into the ground, but before that time, I'm going to have to stick with the Smashing Pumpkins.
I know I just lost all my indie cred, but I'm trading it off for nuevo-retro.
You know what else? British Sea Power does a much better impression of Joy Division than Interpol. (By not sucking.) |
