Dark Crusade demo review: NEGATIVE!!!!!!!!! by Weyoun Voidbringer 09/04/2006, 10:09am PDT
The upcoming awesome looking DOW expansion features a new campaign style type idea: a persistent planetary battleground, where you can carry over resources and unit upgrades as well as equip your commander units with super powerful battlegear, or something.

So the demo gives you one taste of a skirmish map with an extremely limited tau tech tree (ttt?), and then HALF a campaign story map which ends just as you are about to break into a space marine fort.

The skirmish map you get doesn't let you select any options for what race you play as or fight against. The campaign map also had some very odd scripted triggers, such as a 6 man squad of heavy bolters or rocket launchers (the max cap for special weapons in space marine squads was always 4) and an orbital relay (a space marine structure) you could "capture" by taking control of a nearby strategic point which allowed you to fire orbital bombardments (!?!). You also can't save your game or select another difficulty setting. You can't even select a unique unit paint scheme. I hope all the hard work and effort went into the full version and was completely left out of the demo. :(

After owning Dow and Winter Assault, this demo is basically just a tiny preview of one new race. Kinda dissapointing. Still, I am sure the full game will be 1000x better than the World of Warcrap expansion. :(
