Is this one of those cop shows with the magical DNA machine?
Where, like, they put a hair sample on a glass slide and place that in the machine, then there's all sorts of beeping and crap and then the screen pops up with a box in the lower right where you see a bunch of As and Cs and Gs and Ts flying by as the machine is automatically sequencing the dude's ENTIRE GENOME in seconds, and in the upper left there's another box with a PICTURE of the actual DNA molecule itself stretched out into a nice straight double-helix and rotating slowly, possible with tiny text popping up and pointing to points of interest, until the whole thing is finished in ~15 seconds and a big red box pops up and starts flashing "MATCH" accompanied by a beeping noise?
In real life, juries are apparently becoming more and more insistent that there be DNA evidence, even in non-murder and non-rape cases, and more incredulous when told the actual amount of time they must wait for the results. WI recently passed an advisory referendum saying we'd be cool with reinstating the death penalty if there's DNA evidence. No mention of what kind of DNA evidence on the ballot, just mentioning the magic 3-letter word is enough.
Could shows like this be to blame? |
