Yeah, stealth is really the way to go. Stealth and theft.

Don't underestimate the power of the silence program. If you catch a probe IC in an empty node, silence it then kill the probe. No more interruptions while you're trying to steal shit (Note that this is only temporary unless you close the IC entry port). Also, you can't cancel a red alert or crash the system without killing all the IC present in the node.

Also, pick whether you want to do programs, or chips, but don't waste cash on both. (I recommend programs.)

Huh? That's crazy talk. Higher level programs take more memory. If you're not boosting your chips you'll be dealing with a heavy load disadvantage and eventually your arsenal just won't fit. Plus Firmware upgrades boost several actions at once while a program upgrade only helps that one particular action. Dicking around with $3000 programs when there's a $200 chip upgrade available is lunacy. The main disadvantage of investing in chips is that you're dependent on having a CPU at the same level or higher.

Note that boosting a skill, chip, or program by one point gives an equivalent boost in performance (+5% base chance of success).

I'd suggest in the early game just focus on boosting skills and make your first purchase priority a chip burner.
