The demo of some shooter called Alpha Prime has just been released. It's a 441 MB download and it lets you play two fairly long levels. It's a FPS based on the Doom 3 engine, and, at least as far as the demo goes, it could be summed up as "Doom 3 done the proper way". You can use flashlight and weapons at once, the guns feel like you're actually shooting something, you can peek around corners, you have some sort of bullet time, it features a fairly robust physics engine and you have a "use" button so you can mess around with stuff (what good is a physics engine if you can't play with a basketball, right?). It's no Far Cry, but it's not the blandest shooter in history either.
The full version comes out on May 1st, and I foresee it will go down on the bargain bin within a month, and into complete oblivion before september, but if you're into this sort of thing you sure could do worse. |
