I like browsing the Joel On Software forums, and pretty much everyone there says gaming jobs are the worst you can possibly get. Apparently it's standard practice to work overtime. ALSO: If you ever wondered how those people found time to post those 4000 comments on Slashdot daily, I have the answer: mandatory 11-hour workdays. I guarantee they're not getting more work done via overtime. Tell the wife to buy the manager a copy of Peoplesoft--total production may actually dip as morale plunges/employees burn out.

Also: scheduling is hard, which is why you're supposed to plan for a lot of excess time (Joel mentions planning vacation time into your schedules, who would have thought of that?), and also be able to cut features as you approach the deadline.

But enough of software development.
