Dear Ms Zseni-Chan Beep Beep
Thank you for your email. I am pleased to inform you that the order was despatched from our warehouse in the UK on the 15 August. Delivery usually takes between four to six weeks. Herodotus is currently being reprinted and we expecting copies to arrive at our warehouse on the 12 September. It will of course be despatched as soon as copies are available.
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused by the delay of this book.

Four to six weeks! The last couple shipments came in two. I think she's lying to me. I'm gonna kill her.
They send fantastic brochures of upcoming releases - larger pages than some magazines, sensuous write-ups of deathless classics with pictures all over the place. Other people do the Sunday crossword but Zseni flips back and forth through the brochure, toying with the order forms, circling here and crossing off there, attempting to make the break points as painlessly as possible (at $100, you can split your payment over three months at no interest; at $200, they give you five months' worth of rope to hang yourself with, etc.) Even the payment plan calls to mind those happy-go-lucky limeys, nobbut two pence to rub together in their pockets, living on egg sandwiches and the rural rents but still buying books. Too many of them selected Herodotus in August.
