Is everyone just spoiled by God of War's square mashing?

I'd peg Dante Must Die as insane. It's a pity because it becomes insane in cheap way, such as taking away the wonderful feature of off camera enemies crying out before they charged you, making it totally cheap guess work (like fighting the black ninjas in Ninja Gaiden, only without blocking and invincible dodging), especially against fast flying enemies like the starfish and gargoyles where the best strategy becomes backing into an area that zooms the camera out.
