Really? I think the advent of the internet search has made incorrect literary references in the context of an article demeaning other groups' levels of education unusually ironic. Especially when the reference in question is being used as some magnificent purple-prosed finale to an incredibly pompous piece. The fact that you and I both agree (probably) that there is a fundamentally ignorant conservative movement leading the charge these days should not blind one to the inadequacy of this critique.

It struck me in the midst of thinking in how many ways that the Odysseus analogy was wrong for the effect he was apparently pursuing, and typing "odyssey ears sirens" confirmed it in seconds. And I wasn't even writing an incredibly pedantic article at the time, and like I said it was the general wrongness of the comparison (as well as its layers of gay) more than the wax that led me in that direction.
I think your post might have made sense if I had brought the article up in the first place. As a response to my snide aside, I think we can charitably describe it as overwrought.

So you weren't talking about the article when you quoted it? You were just generally toasting the idea of ignorant conservatism? I'm not sure how in a thread based on this massive fruit basket of an article it is my response to it that comes off as "overwrought". But I'm sure you'll tell me.
